McCarthy Stone sought to design an onboarding experience that would instil the desired organisational culture from day one. Amid significant changes, we aimed to address silos within the company by creating a unified induction process focused on networking and mutual understanding.
We integrated with the HR team, analysing the existing induction process to understand its impact on new employees. Our analysis revealed that localised inductions diluted the overall culture, leading to strong sub-cultures within business units. A multi-level intervention, which all functions could buy-into, was necessary to establish a cohesive McCarthy Stone culture.
We swiftly developed and implemented key interventions, including an induction framework based on needs analysis, aligning it with the company’s culture and values. We also developed learning pathways to provide a clear onboarding approach, reducing voluntary turnover in those critical early months. Additionally, we collaborated with leadership to create content and a narrative that empowered them to shape culture and manage change.
Our comprehensive approach resulted in a unified onboarding experience that reinforced McCarthy Stone’s culture from the start. The new induction process fostered better networking and understanding among employees, contributing to a more cohesive and engaged workforce. Following a skills transfer approach, we left McCarthy Stone with the capability to deliver this induction themselves, reducing reliance on external support and investment.
By immersing ourselves in the McCarthy Stone team for a period of time, we were able to align and empower leaders to be the owners of a unified McCarthy Stone culture, whilst building an induction approach and transferring capability to allow them to deliver this themselves. Leaving the team in a stronger position to manage an engaging induction experience for all new recruits.
Sam conducted a review of how we induct and onboard new colleagues into the business and helped us develop a companywide induction programme. Sam was super engaging and collaborative in her approach bringing colleagues with her on the journey. She has fantastic drive and energy and brings her creativity, knowledge and experience together to create compelling and engaging training materials. I would highly recommend Sam and BehaviourLAB to any business wanting to engage employees and develop cultural change strategies.
